PETALING JAYA: Goh Jin Wei’s run in the Italian International Challenge in Milan came to a painful end when she conceded a walkover.

The independent shuttler was fighting tooth and nail against Taiwan’s Hsu Wen-chi in the last four and started to suffer from cramps at 23-23 in the first game.

The Malaysia hung on to complete the first game which the Taiwanese won 26-24. Jin Wei then retired after the pain became unbearable.

Wen-chi went on to win the title after beating India’s Malvika Bansoid 21-9, 21-11 in the final yesterday.

Jin Wei revealed that she started having gastrointestinal issues since Friday.

“I have been having indigestion problems on the second day after I reached here. I’ve been relying on medication since then,” said Jin Wei.

The 22-year-old will not want another setback to stall her comeback.

The 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games champion left the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) last year after undergoing surgery for her stomach ailment. Then, she felt that she needed time to recover.

This year, after turning pro, she has been slowly climbing her way up and showed glimpses of her past brilliance by winning all her matches in the Uber Cup Finals in Bangkok last month.

She is currently ranked 81st in the world and another break may jeopardise her chances of improving her world ranking and playing in bigger tournaments.

Jin Wei will be competing in the Danish Masters in Hillerod from June 9-12 where she opens her campaign against India’s Tanya Hemanth on Friday.

Meanwhile, in the men’s singles, Christian Adinata of Indonesia outplayed Denmark’s Magnus Johannesen 21-16, 21-15 to win the title. Christian had eliminated Cheam June Wei in the last eight on Saturday.

It was also over for independent shuttlers Chia Weijie-Low Hang Yee, who went down 19-21, 16-21 to Su Ching-heng-Ye Hong-wei of Taiwan in the semi-finals.

Men’s singles: Christian Adinata (Ina) bt Magnus Johannesen (Den) 21-16, 21-15.

Men’s doubles: Kim Jae-hwan-Yoon Dae-Il (Kor) bt Su Ching-heng-Ye Hong-wei 21-14, 21-19.

Women’s singles: Hsu Wen-chi (Tai) bt Malvika Bansoid (Ind) 21-9, 21-11.

Women’s doubles: Hsu Ya-ching-Lin Wan-ching (Tai) bt Jin Yujia-Crystal Wong 21-8, 21-8.

Mixed doubles: Zachariah Sumanti-Hediana Julimarbela (Ina) bt Ruttanapak Oupthong-Chasinee Korepap (Tha) 22-20, 21-9.
