SEREMBAN: The driver of a car who allegedly caused a five-vehicle accident along the North-South Expressway near here is believed to have been under the influence of drugs, says the police.

Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Nanda Maarof said police have obtained a remand order to detain the 28-year-old man till June 9.

“Investigations are still ongoing. We obtained a remand order today and the man will be remanded until June 9,” he said in a statement on Monday (June 6).

It is understood that a urine test on the man had returned positive for drug abuse.

The man, who is from Bandar Baru Bangi in Selangor, will be investigated under Section 6 and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

A video clip of the accident which happened at around 10.40am on June 5 at KM242.9 of the south-bound lane of the NSE has since gone viral.

The man, who was driving a Perodua MyVi, first crashed into the rear of a Toyota Avanza driven by a 44-year-old man.

ACP Nanda said the impact of the crash caused the driver of the Avanza to lose control of his vehicle and crash into a Proton Saga driven by a 40-year-old woman and a Proton Persona with a 35-year-old man at the wheel.

He said the rear tyre of the Avanza was also detached when it was rear-ended by the MyVi.

“The tyre then flew into the opposite lane and hit a car driven by a 32-year-old man,” he said.
